The Event Bureaux des Avocats Internationaux, KOFAVIV, FAVILEK, TET KOLE PLATFOM POLITIK, all participated in a sit-in in front of the National Palais grounds in Haiti this month. They are demanding the Haitian state to take responsibility for the conditions in the internally displaced persons camps that deterioriate by the week, and by the day. The Background The Haitian government, since January 15th, has blocked residents of Port-au-Prince from returning to their land or rebuilding any type of permanent structures. The Preval administration insisted that the residents from Carrefour to Delmas and all the areas in between migrate from the city to the rural areas of the nation, where there is no work and no opportunity for aide, as it does not travel that far. The Efforts Although millions and billions of dollars have become available, those monies are being used to rebuild schools, rebuild roads and basically focus on infrastructure projects - including the agriculture, tourism and textile sectors. These are all understandable projects but the immediate humanitarian need is being ignored. The Politics Everyone is taking a gamble, everyone is raising their antes and the money that they are playing with is the lives of the Haitian families.
